The official usb hub in the retrofit kit sold by mazda for official android auto/carplay connectivity has a thicker cable and is a higher standard. I believe its usb 3.0 speed/power as opposed to 2.0 or 1.# (?) which is in the default usb hub. It does allow better data transfer speeds + charging power.
