Some things that will help you do well with Venice. Take out Milan first. Those fuckers will never, in any compaign ever, not invade you at the first opportunity. Slaughter them mercilessly. Take Florence. Florence + Milan's territories cement northern Italy for you. Give your eastern, non-island territories to the Pope.
3. FORGING LASTING ALLIANCES. This is probably the most important topic pertaining to the interaction between diplomacy and war. Choosing your allies or even choosing to have allies are decisions that should be carefully thought out in consideration with the current territorial situation of the game.

Even if both the prince and faction leader are killed at the same time (never mind same turn, literally exact same time), faction leadership simply falls to the next available family member on the spot. This was tested in near-vanilla conditions and I will confidently say that the logic applies across every submod to ever exist, plus vanilla

The Kingdom of Jerusalem, as a Crusader State, was founded at the end of the First Crusade in 1099. Incorporating the County of Tripoli and considered by many to be the jewel of the Crusader Kingdoms, Jerusalem is made up of Franks, native Christians, Jews, Orthodox Christians and Muslims. As a result, a certain degree of religious tolerance
For factions in other games named Spain, see Spain. Spain is a faction in Medieval II: Total War, unlocked at start of campaign. Any man who is born on the Iberian Peninsula would call himself a "Spaniard," so when King Alfonso VIdeclared himself the "Emperor of all Spain" three years ago, it was truly a bold claim. Best faction to help break my addiction to playing as England? Probably about 90% of my playthroughs are with England, I just can't help it! Great starting position,Longbowmen are OP, infantry is well balanced and whilst cav isn't superb, it's certainly good enough. Also me being English plays into the bias a lot. Sure it only has a handful of settlements against the massive size of England, but it is capable of producing a mighty military. As you conquer the towns on the English-Welsh, you'll get events which provide you with lots of good troops. Your archers are also the best archers in the entire game of Medieval 2, even surpassing the English longbowmen. After the Witch-King died, one of the other Nazgul became Faction Leader instead of Sauron. As it turns out, you actually can give someone the "Faction Leader" trait by typing "give_trait Factionleader." So, I can give Sauron the "Faction Leader" trait, but the game still does not recognize him as the leader. It still calls him T79hD.
