hi , My e36 convertible roof needed further help to open by pushing it. It was all a bit slack in movement and a bit slow. Took it to BMW who said it would cost £3000 (english pounds) . I then took it to a random roof specilist who replaced the straps for £300 all in. He did advise me to not ajust it to much as it may put pressure on the motors.
the roof and the trunk lid will collide and do damage to one or the other or both.) I'm not sure about your car, but on my car I can operate the roof in the trunk if the roof is either fully open or fully closed, but if I operate the roof or the trunk in mid cycle of the other then serious damage will occur.
I've been having issues lately with my 1999 E36 323i Convertible and I was hoping someone could help. Ok, first signs of problems were 6 months ago, the functionality of the fully automatic hood was intermittent. Sometimes the roof would fold down OK, and other times nothing would happen at all when the button was pressed, not even a flashing

My daughter bought a 1998 E36 coupe and both power windows are not operating, neither via the switches nor when you open/close the doors (in coupes and convertibles, when you open/close the doors, the windows go down/up about 5mm). I tested the relay, that works OK on the
When I press the switch to open the top, it starts opening and lifts up for a few seconds - until it gets to the end of the "first stage" - about 12 inches up - and then the motor just stops. From there I can close the top with the switch, but it will not open past that point. A mechanic (in casual conversation, not trying to fix it) suggested

Roof lower/rise motor has to be disengaged before you can lower/rise it manually, so if it works manually the motor will not work until it is engaged again. My own E36 convertible plays up sometimes, I have had it looked at at a BMW specialist and they tell me it is because the elastic strips within the roof are tired and sometimes the rear

The E46 Convertible top closing mechanism (325 and 330 CI) is ultra-expensive to have repaired at the dealer. Some have paid $600 to $1000 to fix this issue. Many owners will share this same common failure eventually. Mine is a 2005 325 CIC. I put the top up and down every day, several time per day.
Convertible top won't close - fully manual top, after conversion from power top. I've completely replaced my top, headliner, straps, gaskets, and converted the power top to manual with the 323i manual power top components, but my top won't close. Opens and closes smoothly until it reaches the part where the last section is supposed to latch down.
If you like to fix your BMW E36 electrical issues which normally happen very often and you don’t like to visit electricians almost all the time, then you must have the BMW E36 fuse box diagram. These diagrams can come in handy especially if your window regulator relay goes bad. The fuse box diagram is usually found under the cover of your
Check the boot lid is locked and repeat on both sides. Replace the spare wheel, carpet & plastic trim. In the boot ensure the load divider is in place & check it locates into the catches on either side. Check all is secure and drive carefully to a garage to find the roof fault and repair required.
I have an UK specification E36 convertible with a fully MANUAL roof. The tonneau has jammed closed. I can release one side by pulling the cable threough the boot, however the side with the safety catch is jammed stuck and the handle and cable won't releaseit when pulled. I have taken off the convertible top seven (7) times now. I've replaced the tension straps twice making sure to mount the straps so they are not too tight. I am reasonably certain they are not the problem. I can't seem to find a solution to the issue of the convertible top motor straining to close. It will travel to a point and then stop. 2 posts · Joined 2011. #20 · Oct 13, 2011. i am having similar problems with my 328i convertible; took it to the BMW dealership for a quote to get it fixed, they charged $155.85 to give me a quote and to fix they stated between $4725 and maybe over $8000. BMW does not seem interested in working on older BMW's. My roof was working fine, then just totally stopped working, even the windows didn't drop before the roof opening cycle, checked all fuses (ok) there are several that protect the roof electrics including one in the boot near the battery, had visions of expensive motors and control relays, but a friend who is a BMW tech suggested checking out imjWDP.
