It is normal. According to Makhos test IPS screens at max brightness can pull about 100mah, give or take. EZ flash omega can pull another 100mah, I have tested. Now this can fluctuate up and down the depending on your GBA SP model/motherboard and what features you are using in EZ Flash, RTC and RTS eat up way more battery.

I suppose you could buy a bunch of GBA SP battery packs and swap one out for another every time it dies, but that would be ludicrous and get expensive fast. so for me its either the battery or charger being wierd. my gameboy advance sp hadnt really been used for over half a year and just started playing the pokemon games again. the charger i use is just one that was £5 off ebay years back an non OEM one. ill report back shortly.
Serious now, if you have a gbaSP you can fit a DS (first model) battery without trimming the shell (need to trim just 2 tiny plastic pieces from the battery), and that is going to give you some more juice to play with. (600mah vs 850 or 950, cant remember) I get around 6 hours on a full battery, sound off and medium brightness.
