The only point of comparison I have for WHR vs no HRM is the va-hr vs va, and they are much more different that the 230 and 235, but the same "family". In normal use, day-to-day use of the watches and doing maybe an hour of GPS a day, I find I need to charge them just about as often.

Charging Issue ?? Put my 235 on charge tonight using cable and usb power supply which I have used before. First time since most recent update. The unit does not appear to be charging although when the USB is simply transferred to a computer it changes display and appears to start charging. Have tried two power supplies and same results.

For me i'd really love to only have to charge once a week if possible. Since my 220 used smart recording (GPS) and i was fine with that, that's what i've started out using with my 235. If i have issues with pace or HR i'll switch over, but it's all good so far. So to begin with i've gone with smart recording to maximise battery life.
The only difference between the FR230 and FR235 is the optical sensor in the FR235 – that’s it. All other baseline features are the same. For this review I was sent both a FR230 and FR235 to borrow from Garmin. Both are final production units, and this review is based on final production firmware (3.10+).
